Deuteronomy 8:3
"Man shall not live by bread along; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord"
Walking down the narrow road isn't that easy, when the devil is hiding along the way, behind a tree, ready to lead you astray. Do you have your correct map? A compass? How about a guide to where you're going?
The path is a simple straight road but by the devil's cunning, it has turned out to be a labyrinth for us. Yet do not fret, do not be discouraged for there is a way to walk this walk, bruised yet standing tall. Just prepare your map (bible), compass (knowledge of truth) and your partner (Holy Spirit) on this narrow way and then everything's gonna be alright.
In the book "When God Speaks" by Henry and Richard Blackaby, they stressed that the reason a believer doesn't understand a Word from God is because of two things: (1) Sin and (2) Worldly things. These two work together to disrupt your harmonious day to day conversations with God. And they have worked mysteriously as to turn truth into disruptive lies. That's why many people have wrong notions about God, and His work in our lives. Sin and this World has distorted what is truth and has dealt with Christians severely, only to make them believe lies that has turned them from the Word of God and that's why reception hasn't been good for most of us.
For example, sex, as sacred as it is, it has been beaten down and degraded from its sacredness, that's why this "holy" act has been used abusively by unmarried young ones who's knowledge of the truth, is to them no sense at all. I, for one, have been led into thinking that it is okay to do it outside of marriage because God created it for pleasure. WRONG! God has created everything, not for your pleasure, but FOR HIS PLEASURE and FOR HIS GLORY.
The truth, we know nothing of, that's why we have to get back to the Word and understanding every truth that has been turned into lies.
The Blackabys have searched of what several characteristics of the way God speaks to the people in the Bible, which we can apply in our daily lives: (When God Speaks, by Henry and Richard Blackaby, Day 1: God speaks to His people, pg 9)
- Though God used many ways to speak to His people, the key is that "God spoke," not "how" He spoke. Those to whom God spoke focused on God's message, not the means by which He spoke.
- Whenever God spoke, the person knew it was God. Scripture indicates we will know God's voice.
- When God spoke, the person knew what God said. Usually our problem is not in knowing what God says, but in our willingness to obey what we know He is saying to us.
- When God spoke, the person knew what to do in response and could no longer carry on "business as usual." The issue was a matter of disobedience.
- The person who received a word from God could not always prove to others that God had spoken. He could only obey and allow the results to testify to God's work. (When God Speaks)
